Two children badly injured in J'lem fire

5 other people lightly to moderately injured; game with matches causes blaze.

Two children, aged two and six, were in very serious condition from injuries sustained from a fire in their Jerusalem apartment Monday morning. The children's mother, two siblings and a neighbor were lightly injured in the fire, while the father was reportedly in moderate condition. A police and fire department investigation concluded that the fire began after the children played with matches. The apartment, located at Shmuel Hanavi 1 in an ultra-Orthodox neighborhood of the capital, sustained heavy damage in the fire. A firefighter who arrived at the scene described the apartment to Army Radio as "filled with flames. The children's room was completely burned and the entire apartment was heavily damaged by smoke." All the injured were evacuated by MADA ambulances to Hadassah hospital in Ein Karem.
