US envoy George Mitchell lands in Israel, meets Barak

US envoy George Mitchell landed in Israel Wednesday night from Tunisia and met Defense Minister Ehud Barak at the latter's Tel Aviv home for talks on the peace process and the two-state solution.
In Algeria Tuesday, Mitchell said that forging an independent Palestinian state was "the only way" to peace.
On Thursday, Mitchell is due to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman for the first time since they took office last month.
