Where in the world is Prime Minister Ehud Olmert? "Working in his office in Jerusalem," responds an official in the Prime Minister's Office, a bit taken aback by the question. But the question is legitimate, because Olmert has, for the most part, not been heard of since he returned from Russia on October 7, over two weeks ago. For instance, he has barely appeared in a news-related article in The Jerusalem Post since the day after his return. "Today [Thursday] he is in Tel Aviv for defense-related meetings, like he always is," the official said. "And on Wednesday he held meetings in his office in Jerusalem, including one on children at risk." The official said that Olmert has been out of the news since returning from Russia because he came back the day before Yom Kippur, and then a few days later came Succot. The prime minister, the official said, spent Succot with his children and grandchildren in his residence in Jerusalem. According to the official, Olmert is continuing with his regular schedule. Regarding another meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, the official said that the two men talked about it before Rosh Hashana, but have not yet set a date. One thing Olmert was not involved in, the official said, was Foreign Minister and prime minister-designate Tzipi Livni's efforts to put together a government. As to whether he was following the coalition developments closely, the official said, "just like everyone else in the country."
