Yad Sarah to help disabled reach polls

Disabled persons who want to get to the voting booth in a wheelchair on Tuesday can order a specially equipped Yad Sarah van to take them to the polls. The Nechonit service is free on Election Day for trips within cities. Thirty-nine vans with elevators or ramps to get wheelchairs inside will be available. Call 1-700-501-800. The vans are available at a subsidized fee throughout the year to take the wheelchair-bound to doctors‚ appointments, family celebrations and other events. "We are happy to be able to help the disabled take advantage of their democratic right to vote on the future of their city," said Nechonit department head Yoel Levi. Last year, his staff made 115,000 trips with disabled people around the country.
