4th arrest over Crete synagogue burning

Police arrest American English teacher in connection with arson.

ATHENS, Greece - A fourth suspect, an American man, has beenarrested in two arson attacks on a medieval synagogue on the island ofCrete, Greek police said Monday.
Apolice statement said that the suspect, identified only as an Englishteacher, was arrested Monday in the seaside town of Hania, where theEtz Hayyim Synagogue was damaged in attacks earlier this month.
Police have also arrested a Greek and two British men and areseeking another US citizen, also an English teacher. The attacksdestroyed books, archives and heirlooms.
Police have not said what the suspects' alleged motive was.
The Etz Hayyim Synagogue is the only one to survive on Crete, whose last Jewish community was wiped out during World War II.
