Jimmy Carter was rebuffed in his attempts to reconcile with Jewish leaders. All but a handful of Jewish groups failed to attend a meeting the former president convened last month, the Forward newspaper reported Friday. Only the Reform movement and dovish groups attended. Abraham Foxman, the Anti-Defamation League's national director, said he did not want to be "used" by Carter, who infuriated Jewish groups last year by publishing a book that likened Israel's settlement policies to apartheid and then complaining of censorship when Jewish groups protested. A separate, closed-door meeting Carter held with Jewish members of Congress ended in acrimony, participants said.
