A 24-year-old Palestinian with ties to Islamic Jihad was under arrest Saturday for the August 10 murder in east Jerusalem of an Italian tourist whom he had mistaken for a Jew, police said.
The murder suspect, Ashraf Khaneishe of Kabatiya, south of Jenin, was apprehended at the Kalandiya checkpoint north of Jerusalem on Friday, and confessed to the stabbing attack, Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby said.
Khaneishe re-enacted the attack and told police he came to Jerusalem to stab a Jew, police said.
Angelo Frammartino, 24, from Monte Rotondo, near Rome, was stabbed to death near Herod's Gate. He had come to Israel to help establish a summer camp for Arab children.
