Lookin' Good: Breathe it all in

Spring is in the air – and so is the scent of new perfumes.

Donna Karan has launched pureDKNY, an eco-conscious series of fragrances. The perfumes focus on a single ingredient (vanilla or verbena), which is the key to the whole composition. The vanilla and verbena are grown by women in Africa with the help and guidance of CARE and DKNY. The project around the Ugandan Pure Vanilla fragrance was designed to support women in Uganda, while also educating US consumers about the important role women play in breaking the cycle of global poverty. The second in the line of Pure scents is the Pure Verbena, with basil and verbena as the main ingredients. The verbena is grown by women in Togo. A perfect pair for summer. Voyage d’Hermes Perfume, a new edition of the unisex fragrance, is being launched this spring in the same beautiful black flacon. Designed around the notes of the original scent with added floral notes, the composition provides lemon, cardamom and spices in top notes, accentuated rose notes in the heart, and green tea with a strong trail of musk at the end. Released by Parisian fashion designer Lolita Lempicka in 1997, Lolita Lempicka for Women soon became a favorite among sophisticated yet romantic women. A refreshing, Oriental, woody fragrance, it has an exotic but fresh blend, which is perfect for spring. To celebrate the brand’s 15th anniversary, they have launched a smaller bottle under the slogan “Good things come in small packages.” NIS 306 at all perfumeries and drugstores.
Omnia Coral by Bulgari is a romantic, feminine floral-fruity scent, inspired by red coral and the shimmering colors of summer. The top notes include bergamot, goji berry, hibiscus, water lily, pomegranate, cedar and musk. The characteristic red bottle adds an optimistic air to the boudoir. NIS 498 for 65 ml eau de toilette. Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli launched a new women’s perfume last month called Roberto Cavalli Eau de Parfum. The fragrance is intense Oriental and based on notes of orange blossom, symbolizing Italian femininity, sensuality and extravagance. There are also amber, Oriental nuances of benzoin, pink pepper, tonka and vanilla. The bottle’s stopper bears the designer’s initials. Golden shades and leopard print decorate the bottle and packaging. NIS 470 for 75 ml., NIS 359 for 50 ml.
La Prairie has introduced three new fragrances in the Life Threads series. Sapphire, Ruby and Emerald join the Gold, Silver and Platinum that were launched earlier. The bottles of the fragrance collection are wrapped in threads with sapphire, ruby and emerald colored stones. The company says the unique design “symbolizes the most cherished connections of our lives.” The Sapphire is woody with amber and green notes; the Ruby is a floral-Oriental scent; and the Emerald is exotic with notes of galbanum, orange blossom, rose, jasmine, sandalwood, oak moss and amber.NIS 750 for 50 ml. Paco Rabanne is launching two new fragrances – Black XS L’Exces for him and for her. The bottles are designed in a rock ’n’ roll fashion with tattoo- like shapes and silver rose and skull pendants, and music icon Iggy Pop is the chosen presenter. The scent is categorized as Oriental-floral with neroli and black pepper. The target market is the young rock ’n’ rollers: “Smelling it is like walking onto the stage – energetic, full of life and sexy.” NIS 499 for 100 ml. eau de toilette, NIS 439 for 50 ml. eau de parfum. Amber, the new fragrance by L’Occitane, is described as truly Mediterranean. A warm and natural-smelling perfume, its delicious scent brings to mind the shrubs on the beaches of Grasse in southern France, which release their scent as the sun goes down with the intense aroma of amber.
