The city of Kfar Saba has decided to take the country's water shortage seriously and has ordered its gardening contractors to inspect publicly-watered areas weekly, reports www.local.co.il. The decision follows complaints by residents that large quantities of water are being wasted in some areas of the city. According to the report, residents have complained that in some public areas sprinklers are not directed at the plants that need watering, but simply spray water on to the sidewalk or the road. The residents complained that not only was this wasteful during a water shortage, but it was also dangerous to the public. A municipal spokesman said the city was grateful when residents brought faults of this kind to its attention, and said it had ordered gardening contractors to inspect their sprinkler systems weekly. "We call on the general public to act with the same responsibility and to warn us of every fault, especially when it is connected with saving water," the spokesman said.
