Work on the massive Carmel Tunnels project is proceeding more slowly than anticipated, reports Yediot Haifa. A spokesman for the NIS 1 billion project said progress was slower than expected for several reasons, including difficult geological conditions and early problems in organizing the hundreds of Chinese workers brought in to do the work.
The 6.5 km tunnels are being bored through Mt. Carmel under the city of Haifa. The work, which began earlier this year, is supposed to be completed by the end of 2010.
