The historic Neveh Shalom area will be extensively renovated in a plan designed by the municipality to breathe new life into the 118-year-old neighborhood, reports www.local.co.il. The Tel Aviv district planning and construction committee recently approved a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for the 54-dunam neighborhood, which was established in 1890 and is the second-oldest Jewish neighborhood (after Neveh Tzedek) outside Jaffa.
According to the report, the rehabiliation plan, designed by the city together with an architectural firm, will be faithful to the character of the area, designating a number of buildings for preservation and allowing only low-rise buildings and pitched roofs. The plan also allows for open spaces and public buildings, wide sidewalks and the widening of Rehov Shenkar. No cost estimates were reported for the work as of yet.
