Ra'anana plans 3,500-home new neighborhood

The city of Ra'anana has announced a major project to build a 3,500-unit residential neighborhood on currently empty land in the north of the city, reports www.local.co.il. The so-called 2015 project, one of the biggest ever in the city, will cover 900 dunams between the Rassco and the Kiryat Sharett neighborhoods, creating an unbroken urban stretch from east to west. According to the report, the plans call for the building of 3,500 apartments with an average size of 105 square meters each. At least one-third of the apartments are to be small units of 85 square meters each. The plans allow for large areas for the construction of educational institutions and open spaces, including parks, pedestrian paths, bicycle paths and a public car park. The report said the district planning and construction committee is expected to consider the plans in the second half of this year. A municipal spokesman said the project would raise the number of residential units available in Ra'anana significantly, providing a solution to the continuing high demand for homes in the city and helping to rein in still-rising property prices.
