American school remains open in Syria

An American school and cultural center remain open in Syria despite a government order to close them down in retaliation for the deadly US military raid over the weekend. Students and teachers are attending classes as usual at the Damascus Community School and an employee at the cultural center says it is also open. Syria's Cabinet ordered the school and cultural center closed during a meeting Tuesday. The decision was in response to Sunday's attack, in which US troops landing in helicopters attacked a compound near the Iraqi border, killing eight people. The ministers of education and culture were instructed to implement the decision, but there was no sign Wednesday that they had done so.
