Another 14 killed in Baghdad suicide bombing

Violence continued in Iraq on Monday as a suicide car bomber slammed into a checkpoint outside the Interior Ministry in downtown Baghdad Monday, killing 14 people and wounding over 40, police said. The attack occurred at midmorning, when traffic is usually heavy, and the blast was heard up to two kilometers away. Police 1st Lt. Ahmed Mohammed Ali said those killed included seven policemen. Among the injured were 17 policemen, he said. The Interior Ministry, which commands the police and a separate commando force, is dominated by Shiites who have often come under attack from Sunni extremists in the ongoing tit-for-tat sectarian war.
