The IDF on Tuesday announced that it had killed two Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists who were trying to cross from Lebanon into Syria.

While the military in recent weeks and months has frequently killed Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon, it has targeted fewer persons in Syria since the Trump administration started pressuring Israel for progress toward a new security deal with Syrian ruler Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Israel, Sharaa block cross-border weapon smuggling into Lebanon

In addition, Israel and Sharaa have succeeded in blocking much of the cross-border Lebanon-Syria weapons smuggling activities that took place before the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria in December 2024.

This makes the latest attack more unusual in several respects.

The IDF said that it had tracked these two terrorists’ activities and that they had been repeatedly involved in actions endangering Israelis.

By and by, the military said it would continue to thwart cross-border smuggling.
