Authorities announced a vehicle ban will be imposed in Baghdad Sunday ahead of Iraq's Asian Cup soccer championship game against Saudi Arabia.
The ban will begin about half an hour before the match is due to begin in Jakarta, Indonesia, military spokesman Brig. Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi said. He said the ban would include all vehicles as well bicycles, motorcycles and carts from 4 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.
Authorities made the decision to impose the ban to keep "terrorists, Sunni extremists and criminals from targeting the joy of the people over the achievements of the Iraqi national team," al-Moussawi said in an announcement broadcast on Iraqi state television.
