Head of Lebanese Parliament meets with Syrian PM

Syria's official news agency SANA reported Monday that President Bashar Assad is meeting with Lebanon's parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to discuss the political crisis that has left Lebanon without a president for more than four months. Berri is aligned with the Syrian-backed opposition that is locked in a fierce power struggle with the Western-backed government of Prime Minister Fuad Saniora. Lebanon's sharply divided parliament has failed to elect a president since pro-Syrian president Emile Lahoud left office in November.
