Syria's official news agency SANA reported Monday that President Bashar Assad is meeting with Lebanon's parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to discuss the political crisis that has left Lebanon without a president for more than four months.
Berri is aligned with the Syrian-backed opposition that is locked in a fierce power struggle with the Western-backed government of Prime Minister Fuad Saniora.
Lebanon's sharply divided parliament has failed to elect a president since pro-Syrian president Emile Lahoud left office in November.
