Some 300 Iranian women were detained in the last few days for immodest dress, and were released only after signing a declaration that they would no longer appear in public with their hair uncovered or their arms exposed, Israel Radio reported on Monday night. Another 3,000 women were issued warnings, and were summoned to receive "Islamic instruction," according to the authorities. Two days ago, the Iranian government decided to take steps against women dressed immodestly, to be enforced by a special unit of the Iranian police made up mainly of women. According to lawmakers, when men in Iran see women exposed in the street, they ignore their wives. The practice weakens the basic pillars of family life, they said.
