Iraq's Sunni vice president on Wednesday urged the region's Arab leaders not to let Iraq's future be decided by non-Arabs - a clear reference to Iran and the United States.
"Iraq's future should not be left to be defined by foreigners," Tariq al-Hashemi said in Cairo, Egypt, where he held talks with President Hosni Mubarak and chief of the Arab League, Amr Moussa.
"There should an Arab stance before it's too late," said al-Hashemi, who heads Iraq's Sunni Islamic Party.
His comments reflected twofold Sunni fears - of an Iraq dominated by the US-backed Shiite majority in which the Sunnis would be completely sidelined, and of Shiite Iran's growing hold over Iraqi's Shiites.
