Kuwaiti emir dissolves parliament for sake of the nation

The emir of Kuwait dissolved parliament Wednesday and called for early elections in an address to the nation carried by state television.
"In order to preserve the unity of the nation... I decided to dissolve parliament and call on the Kuwaiti people to elect a parliament," said Sheik Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah.
Television then quoted Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Faisal al-Hajji as saying the new elections will be held May 17.
Kuwait plunged into crisis when all 14 members of the country's cabinet on Monday submitted their resignations to the prime minister, Sheik Nasser al-Muhammad al-Sabah, complaining that lawmakers were "interfering" in their work and preventing them from carrying out their duties.
