Senior Hamas official Khaled Mashaal, currently in Jordan, will reportedly arrive in Egypt next week to finalize a deal with Israel for the release of IDF soldier Gilad Schalit. Mashaal was allowed to enter Jordan from Syria on Saturday to attend his father's funeral, Army Radio reported. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas reportedly sent a message of condolences to Mashaal. The London-based newspaper al-Hayat reported that the Damascus-based Hamas leader is expected to leave Jordan for Cairo next week, allegedly to give the final seal of approval to a prisoner exchange deal with Israel. The Jerusalem Post could not confirm the report. Egyptian sources reportedly said a German mediator is in Egypt and will meet with Mashaal.
