The Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt's most powerful opposition movement, denounced on Tuesday the continued detention of one of its top leaders and 15 other members despite a court ruling ordering their release.
Police are keeping the 16 in custody until another court decides whether to uphold the state prosecutor's freezing of the detainees' assets, an Interior Ministry official said. The court is due to rule on the freeze on February 24.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not permitted to speak to the press.
