European foreign policy chief Javier Solana is ready to travel at short notice to Teheran to present the new international offer of incentives designed to persuade Iran to give up uranium enrichment, his spokeswoman confirmed Saturday.
"Mr. Solana is prepared to travel, very soon, but I don't yet have the date," Cristina Gallach said in a telephone interview. "The trip is not going to be a negotiating trip, the objective is to present the proposals of the international community."
Solana is due to leave Brussels on Sunday for the Middle East for three days of talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders, but Gallach said the scheduled could be rearranged to fit in a visit to Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki announced in Teheran that Solana will hand-deliver the package to Iranian officials. He said no specific date has been set but the trip will take place in the "next few days."
