Syria tells Iraqi VP it will help stabilize Iraq

Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi wrapped up a four-day visit to Damascus on Wednesday with Syria promising it would help stabilize his violence-stricken country. Syria will "support any solution that leads to bringing security to Iraq and leads to a new Arab Iraq with very good relations with its neighbors," Syrian Vice President Farouk al-Sharaa said at a joint press conference with his visiting counterpart. "The talks were very useful. I think we have reached good results that will reflect on the situation inside Iraq, especially in light of what we have heard of (Iraqi) hopes," for the upcoming conference on Iraq, al-Sharaa said. He did not elaborate.
