Top US commander in Iraq travels to Turkey

The top US commander in Iraq has traveled to Turkey for talks on the fight against Kurdish rebels. Friday's statement says Gen. Ray Odierno met Friday with the deputy chief of the Turkish general staff Gen. Hasan Igsiz to discuss US-Turkey military cooperation. The military says the meeting centered on the US military's ongoing assistance to Turkey in its effort to defeat the Kurdish rebel group known as the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or the PKK. It says Odierno pledged US support in technical assistance and information-sharing. The statement says "General Odierno fully committed to work with both the Turkish and Iraqi governments in the common fight against terrorism."
