Israeli police arrest employee of Israel embassy in Jordan

According to suspicions, the accountant illegally lifted funds that were meant for purchases, salaries of other employees.

The Israel Police arrested a Foreign Ministry accountant who worked in the Israeli Embassy in Jordan on suspicion of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars.
According to suspicions, the accountant illegally lifted funds that were meant for purchases on behalf of the embassy – as well as funds designated to pay the salaries of other employees.

“We believe the suspect worked in conjunction with Jordanian citizens who worked at the embassy,” police said.
The arrest came after the National Serious and International Crimes Unit ran an undercover investigation after receiving a complaint of missing funds from the Foreign Ministry.
Detectives tracked the movements of funds from the embassy to a string of bank accounts.
The accountant is suspected of “stealing public funds, forging documents and money laundering,” police added.
He was arrested and then released to house arrest earlier this week, though details of the investigation were only released on Wednesday, after the lifting of a media ban.
Police said the investigation was carried out with the full cooperation of Jordanian law enforcement.
