(photo credit: Thinkstock/Imagebank)'s Michael Omer-Man will be posting updates, quotes and observations from an event on the eve of the 12th annual Herzliya Conference in which Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs John Baird is scheduled to give an address on leadership. Earlier in the day, the Canadian foreign minister, a staunch supporter of Israel, took part in a dedication ceremony of a new wing at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem along with Education Minister Gideon Sa'ar.
In the past, Baird came out strongly against the Palestinian bid for membership in the UN's cultural agency. At the time, he froze Canada's contributions to UNESCO, saying Ottowa was deeply disappointed by the vote to grant full membership to the Palestinian Authority.
Also speaking at the event was former adviser and speech writer of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Professor Clarence B. Jones.
