Newly appointed Israel Police spokesman Hillel Partuk has come under fire from Army Radio and Channel 2 after he reportedly provided late responses to requests for information and disrupted planned stories.
Partuk was officially appointed to his position on Thursday by Police Insp.-Gen. Yochanan Danino and Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharnovitch.
Soon after news of the controversy broke on Thursday, Army Radio reported that Partuk had been convicted in 1992 for unlawfully naming a female police officer whose name was covered by a media ban when he worked as a reporter for a local paper. He was fined NIS 15,000.
Partuk told Army Radio on Thursday that following his conviction he went on to hold senior positions as a spokesman, including for the Tel Aviv Municipality, and that he has since observed all media bans.
