Reuven Lavot, 19, was struck by a car and killed at Kibbutz Kfar Giladi in the Upper Galilee early on Saturday morning.
Shortly after the accident, the driver suspected of running over Lavot arrived at the Kiryat Shmona police station, believed to be under the influence of alcohol. He told police that he had been involved in a fight outside of the bar at Kfar Giladi and had accidentally hit the youth with his vehicle while fleeing. He added that the youth he struck with his vehicle had also been involved in the fight outside of the bar.
Police detained the driver for questioning and were investigating the circumstances of the incident.
The victim was taken to the hospital in Kiryat Shmona in serious condition after being struck by the vehicle, where he later succumbed to his wounds.
The 28-year-old suspect was suspected to face a remand hearing on Saturday evening.
Channel 2 reported that 3 other people were detained for questioning. According to the report, police have not ruled out the possibility that the driver ran over the victim on purpose.
