By LETTERS TO THE EDITORLetters(photo credit: REUTERS)Lack of faithIf Donald Trump is anything like the image he projects, Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked is starting out on the wrong foot (“Shaked: We must build in Judea and Samaria after Trump takes office,” January 11).Our legitimacy to build wherever and whenever should never be dependent on the whims or patronization of any president or prime minister. Unfortunately, though, this has become the default position due to shameful, weak and cowardly leadership where it is convenient to blame others for our failures to act as a sovereign nation.To my mind, Shaked, by placing our right to build in the Jewish land on the shoulders of President-elect Donald Trump, exhibited a disgusting display of insecurity and lack of faith in our ability to run our own affairs. We need to get over our reliance on others.We are happy to have the support of a true friend, but at the end of the day, it must be accepted that this land belongs only to the Jewish people, and it will and must remain so.PHYLLIS STERNNetanyaBad, sad feelingIt was with great interest that I read “Report: Israel wastes 33% of food produced at a loss of NIS 19.5 billion annually” (January 11), coming a day after my family and I had been to a restaurant to celebrate a birthday.We were a party of six adults and four children ages three to 11. There was no menu; we were told that they would bring a variety of meats and we could help ourselves to what we wanted.After a starter of the usual salads, a huge platter of chicken schnitzel was placed before us, as was a large dish of french fries. Large plates of roasted potatoes and rice followed, and then two huge platters with steaks and chicken breasts.The amount of food was way beyond what we could consume – I don’t think anyone could consume that amount. I was saddened at the enormous waste and wished I could have gone out there and then and given the food to a deprived family; it would have fed them for a week! I am sorry I didn’t have the guts to ask the restaurant staff what would happen to the food we didn’t eat. In the end, having paid for it all anyway, we took it home to feed the cats!
