60 Sporting Heroes: No. 24 Shia Glazer

In these modern days of transfer fees and ridiculous pay packets there is almost no such thing as a one-club player. Sixty years ago the situation could not have been more different and Shia Glazer was the epitome of the loyal soccer star. Glazer spent his entire prolific career at Maccabi Tel Aviv from 1945 to 1962 and still holds the record for the most goals scored for the club, with 134 in all competitions. Glazer became the symbol of Maccabi Tel Aviv in the 1950s, when the team won the league title five times in eight years. Born in Tel Aviv in 1927, he was an example of a man who stayed close to home and represented his home town. Glazer also played for the Israel national team on 33 occasions, scoring 16 goals.
