ASA Tel Aviv nabs rugby title from Hapoel Jezreel-Gilboa

After years of enduring Hapoel Jezreel Gilboa’s wrath, ASA Tel Aviv captured the Israeli rugby championship with a 12-9 win at a rainy Sportek field in Tel Aviv Saturday.
Jezreel-Gilboa had won the previous five championships, and the last two over Tel Aviv. But the favorites were able to assert their will on their home pitch 12-9 amid driving rain throughout.
Tel Aviv got tries from Tzachi Tessler and Dave Bauman in the first half to take a 12-0 lead, but Jezreel-Gilboa roared back in the second half via Amir Boitler’s three penalty kicks, cutting the score to 12-9 with seven minutes to play.
