Despite playing well throughout large portions of the match, Maccabi Haifa came up short on Thursday night, losing 2-0 to Glasgow Rangers in the second match of the UEFA Cup group stage. Nacho Novo scored the first goal for Rangers only 5 minutes into the match. Haifa piled on the pressure but was unable to score in the first half. One minute into the second half Rangers looked set to double their advantage after Dado Pršo was brought down in the box by Alon Harazi and Cypriot referee Costas Kapitanis pointed to the spot. Nir Davidovitch, however, thought otherwise, guessed right, and stopped the penalty. Maccabi kept up the pressure but it was Rangers who sealed the victory in the 88th minute after Kapitanis awarded a second penalty kick to Rangers. Charlie Adam made no mistake and sent the ball passed Davidovitch. The match was briefly disrupted when a protestor, clutching a Palestinian flag, ran onto the pitch and attempted to handcuff himself to one of the goals, before being led away by police.
