Golf: A wet day on the links
The second “Mondays Tour” tournament of 2011 was held at the Ga’ash Golf Club this week, with 40 golfers braving the offand- on rainy conditions on the perfectly manicured course.
The event was structured in a 4-person team format, with three scores to count on the par 5s two scores on the par 4s and one score on the par 3s.
The winning group of Norma Kaufman, Cyril Kaufman, Steve Taylor and Steve Weil finished with 82 stableford points to take home to the trophy. Close behind, on 81 points, were Ilan Mendelson, Gary Van Der Molen, Dani Hurwitz and Dani Alon.
The prize in the professional section went to Andy Nemiroff, who finished with a gross of one over par 71.
Nearest-to-the-pin prizes sponsored by the Greenfield restaurant went to Jacky Mukmel and Cyril Kaufman.
Cricket: Modi’in tops the table by beating Telalivit
A match pitting the unbeaten Telalivit side against secondplace Modi’in saw Super Lions Modi’in come away with the big victory in Israeli night cricket league action this week.
Telalivit’s opening pair of Simon Minitzer and Dovi Myers put on a solid 34-run opening stand.
However, things started to go horribly wrong for the Telalivit second pairing, as they scored a paltry minus-8 in their four overs.
The last four batsmen coped well against the very disciplined Modi’in attack to reach a respectable total of 77.
Modi’in finished with 107 in their 16 overs to earn a 30-run triumph over Telalivit and leapfrog into top position.
This week’s games sees the unbeaten Pearl Wanderers Cricket Club play against the Modi’in EasyIsrael side in a Plate match that will determine who meets who in the Plate Super 6’s.
The dangerous Sri Lanka Jerusalem team play a doubleheader on Saturday evening, first up against top-of-the-table Lions Modi’in and then up against a CS 8 Ra’anana side desperately seeking a win. A win for the Sri Lankan side will see Modi’in Lions bumped from first place.
