Games We Play: Dimona, Galil clinch first place in softball

In the women's softball league, the Beit Shemesh Fireballs no-hit the Dimona Lady Judeans and ISP Tel Aviv downed Dimona 27-5.

In a busy week of ISA softball, the Dimona Mean Judeans clinched first place in the A Division by destroying the Galil Golan Plastic Products Twisters 17-1. The Twisters, in turn, clinched first place in the B Division by holding on to defeat a feisty Otzma Eilat team 14-13. Eilat dropped a carboncopy of that game to Zion Tours, 15-13, Shimshon Hi-Tech whitewashed the hapless Tigers 15-0, The Dawgs edged Crazy Richard 10-9, Dimona beat Zion Tours 9-6, and Penticon earned three big wins: 16-2 over the Tigers, 17-1 over Crazy Richard, and 17-0 over Shimshon Hi-Tech. In the women's league, the Beit Shemesh Fireballs no-hit the Dimona Lady Judeans 22-1 and ISP Tel Aviv downed Dimona 27-5. On Wednesday, Dimona smacked one line drive and ground ball up the middle after another, and the Twisters' defense was sloppy, while fireballer Yaron Ben-Israel held the northerners to three hits. El Yaheed Ben-Israel had three hits and three runs, Ovade Ben-Israel knocked in five runs, Yaron and Emmanuel Ben-Israel each tripled and scored twice for the explosive Dimona offense. Jake Miller batted in the lone Twister run. On Friday, having to win to take first place and facing an improved Eilat team, the Twisters, down 3-1, scored six in the fourth, keyed by Eitan Milgram's two-run triple. Eilat answered in kind against hurler Yosi Ajzenwaser with six of their own in the bottom half of the frame with two-run singles from Ron Blumenthal and Amos Pollack, and a two-run triple by Yoni Weiss. Down 9-7 in the sixth, and facing Weiss, on in relief of the effective Boris Yegudayev, Galil came up with seven runs. David Earll's bases-loaded walk put them in front, and then Tomer Molovinsky's three-run homer was the coup de grace. However, Eilat wouldn't quit. Pollack again singled in two and Jeremy Shai's monstrous triple made it 14-13. When Blumenthal stole second with the count 1-2, the Twisters chose not to intentionally walk Weiss, and Ajzenwaser struck him out on a high heater. On Sunday, Penticon broke open a slow-starting game with nine runs in the top of the third en route to a 16-2 victory. Offensively, Brian Aron was 4-5 and Roy Sivan had a triple in his season debut. Ami Baran was not his dominating self, walking five and striking out only two, but the Penticon defense was sharp. Guy Bender had two of the Tigers three hits. Also on Sunday, Zion Tours led 4-2 and 6-4 on big hits from Noam Zwilling, Aviv Ya'akov and an inside-thepark homer by Benny Ruggill, but then Dimona pitcher Yaron Ben-Israel, with help from excellent defense, shut the door while his offense mounted a comeback. First baseman Yehuda Ben-Israel made several outstanding plays while going 2-2 at bat, El Yaheed Ben-Israel was outstanding at shortstop and 3-4 at the plate, and Ben Koliyah Ben-Israel had the game-winning RBI. On Monday, the Dawgs jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first, but Crazy Richard hurler, Jay Tuch, settled down while his team mounted a comeback. However, up 10-9, Dawgs pitcher Yechezkel Ganz struck out the last batter with runners on second and third to end the game. In a women's game on Sunday, Arava Israel pitched the first-ever Beit Shemesh Fireballs no-hitter, cruising to a 22-1 victory over the Dimona Lady Judeans. Israel fanned six and Dimona could do nothing at the plate against her. The Fireballs' offense scored freely, and a nine-run sixth ended the game on the Mercy Rule. Israel helped her cause by going 3-5 with a walk and three stolen bases, Rhonda Lloyd was 5-6 with six RBIs and four stolen bases, Batya Jerenberg went 3-5 with a triple and four RBIs and Brittany added four hits.
