The Israel Squash Rackets Association will host the 2006 European Squash Federation Under-15 and Under-17 Team Championships, one of the most important junior competitions on the ESF calendar. The championships will be held in May at the Tel Aviv Towers Squash Club and the Ra'anana Municipal Squash Center. The venues were inspected and approved by ESF representatives after security concerns were allayed. The ISRA anticipates that more than 120 young squash players, boys and girls, plus accompanying managers, coaches and supporters, will come from some 15 countries to compete at the championships. The decision to apply to host the championships follows a steady increase in the popularity of the the sport in Israel. Two Israeli youngsters competed in January's British Junior Open, the squash world's most prestigious youth championship. Last year, three of Israel's top senior players began to compete on the professional circuit.
