Alex Averbukh and Niki Palli will lead a 13-person Israeli team at the European Athletics Championships, which begin next week in Goteborg, Sweden. The Israel Athletics Association released the final list of Israeli competitors on Sunday. Averbukh, the reigning European champ in the pole vault, is the biggest name on the list, while the youngest, high jumper Palli, looks to make a splash in his first senior European Championship. The most popular event among the nine-man, four-woman delegation is the marathon, with five Israeli runners. The championships begin on August 6 and last for one week. This year, a record 1,370 from 48 countries are scheduled to compete. The first Israelis scheduled to compete are Svetlana Gnezdilov in the 100-meter hurdles for the heptathlon and Tal Mor in the 100m preliminaries on Monday morning.
