The "Shahar Pe'er and Apex Investments Excellence Fund" was launched Wednesday afternoon at the investment house in Tel Aviv. The fund will donate NIS 125,000 in 2007, with Pe'er and Apex promising to try and raise additional funds in the coming months. "Growing up in a home in which I had everything, taught me how important financial funding can be in the search for excellence," Pe'er said Wednesday. "I'm convinced that we can raise more money through exhibition matches and donations from abroad." Pe'er will play at the International Women's Open in Eastbourne, England, next week. "I haven't had much time to prepare for the grass courts, but I'm optimistic," she said about her preparation for Wimbledon, which begins June 25. "I've had trouble with my serve and net game, but I'm sure I'll be all right." The 20-year-old, who hopes to advance past the second round of Wimbledon for the first time, said she will play with Indian Sania Mirza in the women's doubles tournament at the All England Club. Mirza and Peer played together for the first time when they reached the quarterfinals of the Bangkok tournament in October 2005. But their partnership was met with anger by some Muslim religious groups and they decided to stop playing together.
