Andy Ram and Yoni Erlich advanced to the semifinals of the Rogers Cup in Montreal late Friday night, defeating number two seeds Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi 6-1, 7-5.
The Israelis, who are seeded sixth at the $2,450,000 event, faced fifth seeds Paul Hanley and Kevin Ullyett in the last four, late Saturday night.
Ram and Erlich, who received a first round bye, reached the quarterfinals without even playing a match after Lleyton Hewitt and Rafael Nadal withdrew from their second round encounter.
Ram and Erlich dominated their quarterfinal right from the start and broke twice in a row to open an early 4-0 lead.
The Israelis would have a far tougher time in the second set, but a break in the 11th game gave the duo a crucial lead which they soon converted into a victory.
Roger Federer advanced to the finals of the singles event on Saturday night in Montreal, defeating Czech Radek Stepanek 7-6 (6), 6-2.
"You know you're playing against one of the best players in the history of the game, but once you step on the court, he's an opponent like anybody else," Stepanek said of Federer.
"You have to try your best to beat him," he concluded.
On Friday, Andy Roddick was knocked out by third-seeded Novak Djokovic of Serbia in a 7-6 (4), 6-4 loss. Djokovic faced Rafael Nadal in the second semifinal late Saturday night.
