Softball: Penticon beats TA Tigers to win third straight Fall Tournament

Penticon won its third straight Fall Tournament with a convincing 6-3 win over the Tel Aviv Tigers on Sunday. Pitcher Ami Baran struck out two and kept the fearsome Tiger bats off balance, scattering five singles and pitching six shut-out innings. Meanwhile, Penticon chipped away at hurler Goose Gillett, scoring two in the first and second innings and single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, led by IBL player Daniel Maddy-Weitzman who was 3-4 with a triple and three runs scored. The Penticon defense, which has excelled the whole tournament was in fine form with young Ehud Mayerfeld making a running catch of a foul ball at the fence to stifle a Tiger rally, and second baseman Ron Solomon who gobbled up everything hit in his direction. Down 7-0 in the seventh, the Tigers rallied, getting on the board with an RBI groundout from Yoram Goldmark, and then a two-run double from teen Etai Mayerfeld, whose brother and father both play for Penticon, before Baran shut the door.
