Water Polo: Greece, Romania in final at Wingate

Russia to play Israel for seventh place in int'l tournament; Sports Minister Majadle: I'll do everything to ensure the sport will grow in Israel.

Greece will play Romania in the final of the Israel International Water Polo Tournament at the Wingate Institute on Sunday afternoon after the two European teams came through tough semifinals. On Saturday, Romania overcame France 13-10 in the first semi of the first international water polo event of its kind to be held in Israel. The second semifinal between Greece and Australia was an even closer affair, with the game going into extra time after finishing 8-8 in regulation. The Greeks eventually edged it scoring three goals in the extra six minutes to win 11-8. Earlier Saturday, Israel was beaten by a stronger and more experienced Dutch team 11-4 to send the Israelis into the seventh place classification game. The classification games will be held on Sunday at Wingate as well as the final. At 9 a.m. Russia will play Israel for seventh place while Serbia will face Holland at 10:45 a.m. The third place game between France and Australia will be held at 12:30 p.m. with the final following at 2:15 p.m. The tournament began on Thursday with group games and continued on Friday. Sports Minister Galeb Majadle attended the opening ceremony on Thursday. "I know the Israel Water Polo Association worked hard to have this tournament here in Israel and I will do everything I can to ensure water polo will grow and develop in Israel," he said.
