The US is pushing for firm, up-front commitments on Iran's part for the future of its nuclear program, the mediators said, while Iran is focused on relief from the US's sanctions and asset freezes.

The Islamic Republic’s financial woes have already led to significant internal unrest, igniting the violently suppressed January protests.

The Middle East has already gone through decades of conflict and crisis, but in this case, many countries seem to think that the US and Israel are driving uncertainty.

The Strait of Hormuz has been a key issue raised by both the US and Iran after each country imposed closures and blockades of the waterway.

Iran has recently created the "Persian Gulf Strait Authority," an organization from the Islamic regime that aims to govern the international waterway.

“The primary concern is that Trump will grow tired of talks and cut a deal – any deal – with last-minute concessions,” one source told CNN. 

Iran submitted its response to the latest US proposal to Pakistani mediators, who passed it on to the Trump administration's representatives.

“The Iranian hubris is overflowing,” INSS Iran researcher Beni Sabti said, warning that the only way to push the regime to accept negotiations is through renewed strikes.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump confirmed that he would be reviewing a plan sent by Iran, but added that he "can’t imagine that it would be acceptable."
