Zohran Mamdani defended his controversial proposal to raise property taxes in what he described as "richer and whiter neighborhoods," while also stating that billionaires shouldn't exist.

Two of the city’s most veteran Jewish pro-Israel Democratic politicians raced to praise Mamdani, a supporter of the boycott Israel movement.  

Joey Saban a Democratic district leader from Brooklyn and political strategist, expressed his dismay at the implications of Mamdani’s win, particularly for the Jewish community. 

The potential impact of a Mamdani mayoral stint on Jewish safety was one of the main concerns expressed to the Jerusalem Post. Additionally

Mamdani, is an outspoken critic of Israel who has long supported the movement to boycott it. He condemned Israel after the attacks of Oct. 7; and has defended the phrase “globalize the intifada."

Al Jazeera Arabic called the 33-year-old state assemblyman “the first Muslim candidate to capture a city-wide primary in America’s largest Jewish population centre."

For mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani to say Israel does not have a right to exist as a Jewish state, he is aligning himself with the world's most notorious antisemites.

Other candidates at the Sunday night forum, organized by the New York Jewish Agenda and held at Congregation B’nai Jeshurun, said they would aim to visit Israel if they are elected.

This is due to a civil-rights complaint accusing the mayor's wife of calling Jewish officials “that Jewish b—h” and referring to an Orthodox commissioner as a “broodmare,” as reported by 3News.

Many of these acts of violation took place in the municipality's offices and during work hours. In a few instances, he worked to advance the requests put in by the women.
