The incident was preceded a week before by an assault in which three identifiable Jewish residents were walking and were shot at with a gel pellet gun, inflicting minor injuries.

The posters allegedly displayed or distributed at a March 15 protest by the suspects included a Jewish man with the body of an insect, and caricatures of Jews and Israelis.

The 17-year-old boy was charged with two counts of reckless firearm discharge, two counts of conspiracy to commit an indictable offense, and two counts of weapons trafficking.

Since 14-year-old Esther went missing on May 15, volunteers had been conducting searches and distributing flyers, offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to her return.

"When a family is desperately trying to find their child, this kind of behavior should concern every person in our city," said family spokesperson Maureen Leshem.

With fourteen year old Esther missing since last Friday, volunteers continued to man a Shomrim hotline and a search operations headquarters through Friday and Saturday.
