Shah Rahman, a Bangladeshi national, pleaded guilty to charges of engaging in conduct in preparation for terrorist acts and was sentenced to 17 years in prison before being released in 2017.

The British national had been charged on Monday and was the second person arrested for the Saturday attack, which caused smoke damage to the synagogue's interior.

The lower high street shop was also vandalized with graffiti and is being treated as religiously aggravated. Police appealed to the public for witnesses or any security footage of the incident.

Seven of the arrests were made in the past 48 hours and relate to a suspected conspiracy to commit arson, though the specific target or venue has not yet been identified.

A 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were taken into custody overnight in connection with the incident, which occurred early on Sunday morning, the police said.

"Ballistic missile launches on 19 April are another breach of UN Security Council resolutions (UNSCRs), destabilizing regional peace and security," UK officials said in a statement.

Tony Greenstein was a founding member of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and also received a suspended sentence in September 2023 for attacking an Elbit Systems factory with Palestine Action.

"I have absolutely no doubt at all, knowing the PM as I do, that had he known that Peter Mandelson had not passed the vetting, he would never, ever have appointed him ambassador," Lammy said.
