Carlebach revitalized Jewish ancient liturgical services and prayers, infusing them with life, passion and joy. He penned hundreds of soulful compositions as part of his revolutionary approach that emphasized happiness and community. His songs are some of the most well known throughout the Jewish world and modern Jewish music is what it is thanks to his enormous contribution. Carlebach is also known for bringing thousands of unaffiliated Jews back to their heritage after the Lubavitcher Rebbe sent him out into the world with his guitar in the 1960s.
Jazz musician, Amir Perelman leads the New Song of Jerusalem Ensemble with a focus on the Jewish musical heritage from both Sephardic and Ashkenazic traditions.
