The Interior Ministry in North Ossetia said the dead include a woman authorities say may have set off the explosion Thursday in the provincial capital, Vladikavkaz.

NTV television reported Friday that the toll rose after a woman who died in the hospital overnight.

The explosion was the deadliest in years in the province in Russia's volatile North Caucasus. North Ossetia borders Chechnya as well as Georgia's breakaway South Ossetia region.

There was no apparent evidence of a link with the recent war between Russia and Georgia over South Ossetia.

North Ossetia was the site of the 2004 Beslan school seizure and other terrorist attacks.
