The Jerusalem District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday filed an indictment with the magistrate’s court against preacher Omar Abu Saara for incitement to violence in a Temple Mount speech.
During his speech he said, “I say to the Jews explicitly, the time has come to slaughter you.”
Abu Saara, 49, and a resident of eastern Jerusalem, went on to make a number of other statements inciting to violence against Jews, said the indictment.
Abu Saara also allegedly said, “The time has come to go to war with you, the time has come to kill you. And we, with God’s help, will destroy you.
We, the Muslims, the correct ones, the faithful and the soldiers of the Islamic caliphate, will arrive to the land to free it from your soiling, and today this is close by.”
He continued, “So go on and do what you want for now,” and, “Now you have the power,” while returning more than once to the idea and terminology of slaughtering Jews, according to the indictment.
He delivered the speech on November 28 in the al-Kabali Mosque and was met with calls of support from the worshipers attending.
Abu Saara had himself videotaped and uploaded the video to YouTube the next day, the indictment said.
He was also charged with a variety of other incitement- and racism-related charges.
Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein personally approved the indictment and the state asked the court to remand Abu Saara to at least partial conditions of detention.
