Aharonovitch delays police chief appointment

Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch on Wednesday delayed the appointment of a new police chief - scheduled for Thursday - to allow time for the State Comptroller to examine allegations against one of the candidates.
Speaking during a ceremony held at Beit Hanassai in Jerusalem, Aharonovitch said, "A few minutes ago, after consulting with the attorney general and the state comptroller, I decided to delay by a few days a recommendation for police chief, in order to allow time for checks and to ensure full transparency in the process, and to ensure that a police chief without a blemish is selected."
