Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Thursday warned that the coming month, with the expected Palestinian bid for statehood at the UN, would be challenging and complicated for Israel.

Speaking at a memorial ceremony in Latrun, Barak stated that the "IDF, Israel Police and the defense establishment were ready for any scenario."

He expressed his wish that Israel get through the period without being pulled into escalation and violence.

Barak added that, in the coming days, Israel would make efforts to get the Palestinians back to the negotiating table, which he stated was the only route to achieve peace.
